Superfund Site Remediation at Wyckoff Eagle Harbor
The Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund Site is located on Central Puget Sound on the east side of Bainbridge Island, Washington. This site is on the National Priorities List and the Environmental Protection Agency has the responsibility to remediate and restore the former site of a wood treatment facility.
The US Army Corps of Engineers was hired to oversee the remediation of the Wyckoff facility. The contract consisted of sampling and analysis of concrete foundations, asphaltic concrete surfacing, smokestack ash and water. Also included was identification and waste characterization of various drummed wastes; demolition and decontamination of large concrete structures and foundations; excavation and disposal of contaminated soils; dewatering of excavations; locate, clean, remove, and dispose of abandoned underground product lines; demolition and disposal of wooden bulkheads, and- record keeping and final report preparation. Other features of work included rerouting existing utilities used for operation of a groundwater treatment plant, operating on a hazardous waste site, development and implementation of an in-depth Management Plan, Contractor Quality Control Plan, Health & Safety Plan, and Chemical Data Acquisition Plan.
